FLYING HIPPO

Monday, May 15th, 2006

On Saturday, the 13th May 2006, the SCDF conducted its first mobilisation exercise for my unit: codename FLYING HIPPO and a few other units too. As this is my first mobilisation exercise, i was a bit "kan cheong" as i did not know what to expect. I was working on that day and so had to rush back home to change into my uniform and report back to my base at 80, Bukit Batok Road, where SCDF 4th CD division HQ is located.

I won’t go into details about the whole mobilisation exercise but from the overall view of the whole process as a first timer, i was extremely disappointed. Coming from a governtment agency which claims for service excellence, first world governtment and so on, i think they really need to buck up on their standards or they’ll become the laughing stocks of the people! It really leaves me with a total negative view of the whole mobilisation exercise and i’m sure i’m not the only one who feels that way as most of my other platoon mates feels the same way too. It just made me wonder what’s the whole purpose of conducting the mobilisation exercise when its not handle in a first class standard?

There needs to be a greater TRANSPARENCY and INFORMATION should be passed down smoothly to every level so that everyone knows whats going on. Don’t just leave us all alone, wondering what is going on and what is happening. Remember, all of us are first timers or newbies, so please, there needs to be more COMMUNICATION! So my HOPE FOR THE FUTURE is that SCDF will improve itself when it conducted mobilisation exercise. Only then people will respect it for being a world class organisation…..

THANX GUYS!

Finally, the election is over….  The results are out and Singaporeans have made their choice known. As one of the candidate for Ang Mo kio GRC, i’m happy that many Singaporeans are able to exercise their rights as a citizen of this great nation we call our home. Even though for this young team which people has named as the SUICIDE SQUAD or KAMIKAZE team etc, facing off the team lead by the Prime Minister, to get 33.87% of the valid votes is already a form of victory especially when some PAP ministers had openly says that we will lose our deposit and PM Lee will get at least 80% of the votes in AMK. Sad to say, they have to lick back their own vomit as we had perform above expectation…

But no matter what it is, i’m really humbled by this experience, and so too with the rest of my team mates. To be the youngest candidate in GE 2006 is quite an achievement for me considering my educational level and occupation. But it goes on to show that The Workers’ Party is not an elitist party and it actually represents every segment of the society. It is a party which fight for the common people, common people like you and me!

Last but not least, i would like to thank my great team mates:- Glenda Han, Wai Leng, Gopal, Melvin and Shin Leong for all the great team-work…. We overcome many obstacles together and each and everyone of us had to make great sacrifices in our own way for this great nation.  Its  fun to be working with you guys and i really treasure the time we go for our house visits, market visits, lunch time appearance, and preparing for our rallies and rally speech.

Not forgetting our Principle Election Agent, Wee Teck, and all those volunteers and helpers who help out the "SUICIDE 6" in their effort to win the hearts of the AMK GRC residents. You guys did a great job and sacrifice for this country and i’m truly touch by that. Not forgetting a special mention to EARNEST aka MARIA, thanks dude! Its great knowing you. Had a great time with this chap who really helps me a lot and make me forget about all the stress and fatigue with his jokes and laughter….
