FLYING HIPPO
Monday, May 15th, 2006On Saturday, the 13th May 2006, the SCDF conducted its first mobilisation exercise for my unit: codename FLYING HIPPO and a few other units too. As this is my first mobilisation exercise, i was a bit "kan cheong" as i did not know what to expect. I was working on that day and so had to rush back home to change into my uniform and report back to my base at 80, Bukit Batok Road, where SCDF 4th CD division HQ is located.
I won’t go into details about the whole mobilisation exercise but from the overall view of the whole process as a first timer, i was extremely disappointed. Coming from a governtment agency which claims for service excellence, first world governtment and so on, i think they really need to buck up on their standards or they’ll become the laughing stocks of the people! It really leaves me with a total negative view of the whole mobilisation exercise and i’m sure i’m not the only one who feels that way as most of my other platoon mates feels the same way too. It just made me wonder what’s the whole purpose of conducting the mobilisation exercise when its not handle in a first class standard?
There needs to be a greater TRANSPARENCY and INFORMATION should be passed down smoothly to every level so that everyone knows whats going on. Don’t just leave us all alone, wondering what is going on and what is happening. Remember, all of us are first timers or newbies, so please, there needs to be more COMMUNICATION! So my HOPE FOR THE FUTURE is that SCDF will improve itself when it conducted mobilisation exercise. Only then people will respect it for being a world class organisation…..
