PRESS STATEMENT: Clarification to The Sunday Times Report

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Hi all, I’ve already issued a press statement to the local media, specifically to the Sunday Times. Here’s the statement:

Dear Editor,

I refer to your newspaper report, "What’s the story?", dated 12 November 2006.

The article stated that," But Mr Abdul Salim, a WP candidate in Ang Mo kio GRC during the May General Election, did more than just look. Along with some other young WP members, he bought some cold cheng tng for Dr Chee and comrades…" I wish to clarify that there is one factual error in this paragraph. I did not buy the cold cheng tng for Dr Chee and his comrades.

Although i was present at Hong Lim Park as an observer and a concerned citizen to bear witness to the protest carried out by Dr Chee and his comrades, but at no time did i buy any cheng tng for them. Your inaccurate report has caused tremendous confusion and unnecessary distress to my supporters, party colleagues and family members.

I am dissappointed that your reporters did not check the facts with me, no matter how minor it is, before publishing them. Small inaccurate details like this could create false impression and mislead your readers. It may also discredit your newspaper as a reliable source of information to Singaporeans at large. I hope that your reporters could be more factually responsible in their writing in future so as to avoid such harm to bothyour newspaper as well as the people concerned in your articles.

Yours Sincerely,

Abdul Salim Harun

My press statement will also be put up at the WP Youth Wing Website shortly.

CLARIFICATION, CLARIFICATION, CLARIFICATION…

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I want to clarify that The Sunday Times articles on November 12 which reports on The Workers Party is not totally base on facts. In the report, it specifically mention me as the one who bought some "cold cheng tng" for Dr Chee and comrades. It said,

" But Mr Abdul Salim, a WP candidate in Ang Mo KIo GRC during the May General Election, did more than just look.

Along with some other young WP members, he bought some cold cheng tng for Dr Chee and comrades…"

I do hereby, totally object to this two stated paragraph above as reported in the Sunday Times as it is clearly  not base on facts and is not the truth at all. I believe, the report  is trying to cause some confusion and to mislead the public on the actual truth. Yes, The Sunday Times and the reporters involve in the story has successfully mislead and cause some confusion among WP members, members of the public and even among my family members, friends and relatives. The story has even been reported in some medias in Malaysia!

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify to one and all that yes, i did attend Dr Chee event as a concern Singaporean and even stayed overnight with them. But i did not bought any "cold cheng tng" for Dr Chee and this is a BIG LIE by the media. I’m trully and deeply disappointed with the report as the reporters involve did not even seek any clarification from me before publishing the report. No wonder, our local media is being rank lowly in the world, which Singaporeans should be disappointed of.

I strongly believe that if the media want to report on a story, it should be base on FACTS and TRUTH. The local media should be OBJECTIVE in its reports and not try to create some DISTORTION. I would hereby advice members of the public not to trust completely our local media as they might just DISTORT the TRUTH and FACTS again.

Last but not least, for your information, i will be issuing out a press statement on this issue through the local media/ WP Youth Wing Website in the next few days.

Regards,

Abdul Salim Harun

Here We Go Again…

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Well…well… well… Here we go again! I would like to take this golden opportunity to wish the 66.6% "learned" voters of Singapore a Very Very BIG THANK YOU for once again, increasing our cost of living… I LOVE you all sooooo much!!!

Well, for those still wondering what i’m talking about, our "First World Caring & Compassionate" Governtment ( I really feel like puking when writing this down), will be increasing the GST up to 7% next year! And who do we have to thank for? Of course that 66.6%! Its them who allowed this to happen, to materialise! And after GST, what’s next? And oh, i forget that this governtment might aim to increase the GST up to 15% in the future…. Don’t believe it? Then mark my words…

If you guys can recall back, everytime before General Election, our Dynasty governtment will give out goodies in terms of the New Singapore Shares etc.and of course, recently, the Progress Package… So many Singaporeans are so excited that they forget to take a minute to think about the consequences… I believe this goodies given by the dynasty is actually a bait for the people to vote for them and when they are returned back to power, they will take back everything they have given and not only that, of course, they will increase your cost of living!

Can you imagine, our ministers and our so called president is earning millions and millions of dollar and yet, they are sucking the common people dry! Where is the compassion? Where is the caring attitude of this dynasty? If all the ministers are really sincere in serving out their duties which is to be the servant to the people, then i shall say, they should take a pay cut! They dont deserve those high salaries! They should give back whatever they’ve earn all this while, back to the people.

To all Singaporeans, I sincerely urge you to rise up and challenge this increase. The time has come. Enough is enough. Don’t wait till its too late…

Thank You Guys….
